Amelia Cannavo (violin), 17, is from Barnegat Light, New Jersey. She spends half of the week in Philadelphia for her music studies where she is a private student of J Freivogel, attends Temple Music Prep’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians, and is also a member of Settlement Music School’s Advanced Study Ensemble Program. At Temple Music Prep, Amelia is the current concertmaster of the Youth Chamber Orchestra. In 2019, she had the opportunity to travel to Iceland with the Youth Chamber Orchestra for an exchange program with a music school in Reykjavik. Amelia is passionate about chamber music and is a member of the Trowbridge String Quartet at Settlement Music School along with two additional small ensembles at Temple Music Prep. Recently, Amelia was awarded both Gold and Silver in the 2022 Bösendorfer Youth Music Festival at The German Society of Philadelphia, having entered the competition as a member of two separate small ensembles. As a chamber musician and soloist, Amelia has had the opportunity to attend masterclasses with Ida Kavafian, Soovin Kim, Ilya Kaler, and Paul Katz, among others. She has attended a number of summer music festivals including the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute, and Credo Music. Outside of music, Amelia enjoys reading classic literature, watching movies and TV shows with her family, and spending time at the beach near her home.
Music has the unique ability to bring joy to our lives – especially in the hands of young people. Daily Joy is a reminder of music’s power to uplift, inspire, and unite.
Daily Joy is a project of From the Top. It began in the very early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and continues today to offer a much-needed respite from the anxiety and worry that we encounter in the world.
