Son Duong (piano), 17, is from Potomac, Maryland, and studies music with Yong Hi Moon at Peabody Preparatory. Son was recently named a MTNA State Winner, U.S. National Foundation Chopin Scholarship Recipient, and received First prize in the High School Division at the Marian Garcia International Piano Competition. Son is passionate about Chopin’s music and inspired by Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son, whom he’s also had the opportunity to study with. Son enjoys giving back through music; he interns for the Tacy Foundation where he organizes concerts at senior homes, and he formerly taught music to children through a Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Additionally, he teamed up with a friend to hold virtual concerts which raised money for disadvantaged and hospitalized children in both the US and Vietnam. When he’s not concentrating on music, Son enjoys reading fantasy novels.
