14-year-old violinist Joshua Lee performs the virtuosic Excerpts from Paganiniana by Nathan Milstein. We think you’ll recognize this iconic melody.

Joshua Lee (violin), 14, hails from Phoenix, Arizona. He began playing the violin at the age of 7 under the guidance of his mom, Jooyeon Han. Joshua is currently an associate concertmaster of the Phoenix Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO) and a concertmaster of his school orchestra (BASIS Chandler, AZ). He won multiple awards in recent national music competitions (junior division) including the String Competition of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) (2nd place in National competition; 2021-22, 2nd place in Southwest Division; 2022-23), OPUS Music Competition (1st place in National competition; 2022 and 2023). He debuted as a soloist by performing H. Wieniawski Violin Concerto No. 1 with Chandler Symphony Orchestra and in 2022.
Other notable awards include 1st place awards in the following competitions: New York International Classical Music Competition (2023), International Grande Music Competition (2022 and 2023), Young Soloist International Music Competition (Grand Prize; 2023), American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition (Distinction Award; 2022), Annual Young Musicians Concerto Competition by Phoenix Youth Symphony Orchestra (2022 and 2023), Arizona Musicfest Strings, Harp & Guitar Competition (2022 and 2023), Chandler Youth Symphony Competition (2022), US New Star Strings Competition (Grand Prize; 2021), and Solo Competition of the American String Teachers Association Arizona (2023, 2020).
He has had masterclasses with Margaret Batjer, Andrew Shulman, Fabio Bidini from Los Angeles Piano Trio (2023), Daniel Phillips, Steven Tenenbom from Orion Quartet (2023), Grace Park and Katie Hyun from Manhattan Chamber Players (2022).
Outside of music, Joshua loves math and science. He is a member of Science Fair and Brain Bee in his school. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and basketball, reading books, volunteering at local senior centers, and sharing his violin recordings in his YouTube channel.
