Katie Wang (piano), 16, lives in Brentwood, Tennessee. She started playing the piano at the age of nine and now studies with Dr. Heather Conner in Blair Academy at Vanderbilt. She is currently a recipient of the Myra Jackson Blair merit scholarship.
Katie has been the winner of various piano competitions, including the Nashville Piano Achievement Competition, Young Artist Achievement Awards, TMTA solo and concerto competitions, and the UTC Piano Arts Competition. She had also received top placements in the state MTNA for piano, Frost International Piano Competition, Memphis International Piano Competition, and the Nashville Curb Concerto Competition. In addition, she participated in summer festivals such as the East Carolina Piano Festival, PianoTexas, and New Orleans Piano Institute. She has played in masterclasses by pianists including Matti Raekallio, Meng-Chieh Liu, and Jack Winerock.
In April of 2023, Katie appeared as a piano soloist with the Nashville Concerto Orchestra. In May 2024, she will perform another piano concerto with the Curb Youth Symphony. Outside of the concert hall, she enjoys playing music for relatives, friends, nursing homes, and senior retirement centers.
Besides being a pianist, she also plays violin and is a member of the Curb Youth Symphony at Blair Academy. At school, she is an active participant in several clubs, and earns top achievements in math and science related contests. In her free time, Katie enjoys playing with her parakeets and traveling.
