Joshua performs on Show 451.

Joshua Rascón (flute), 18, is a Mexican-American musician living in Greeley, Colorado. He began his flute studies at the age of 12 and is currently a student of Brook Ferguson, principal flutist of the Colorado Symphony.

As a performer, Josh has served in the role of principal flute for the Colorado All-State Philharmonic and Symphony orchestras, University of Colorado Honor Band, and Colorado State University Honor Band. He also actively performs with the American-Prize-Winning Denver Young Artists’ Orchestra (DYAO), which brought him on tour to perform at Walt Disney Concert Hall for the 2023 Los Angeles “Sounds of Summer” Festival. Recently honored as the first-prize winner of the DYAO Chamber Concerto Competition, Josh performed Cécile Chaminade’s Flute Concertino with the Denver Young Artists’ Orchestra, featured on Colorado Public Radio’s “Colorado Spotlight” segment. Outside of the concert hall, Josh embraces occasional community outreach performances and teaches a small number of private students.

A senior International Baccalaureate student at Greeley West High School, Josh is a devoted student and advocate in his local community. He currently serves as secretary of the Greeley Youth Commission, organizing and volunteering for literacy projects in underserved communities. Josh plans on studying music performance and environmental policy in college and is interested in pursuing a career as an orchestral musician and environmental advocate. Beyond these aspirations, he finds joy in reading, composing poetry, yoga, baking, astrology, and cherishing precious moments with his family.

Receiving the Award will support Josh’s music education by allowing him to purchase a piccolo, which will serve him in college as well as in the professional field. The Award will also cover travel and lodging expenses related to his upcoming college auditions, and help with private lesson fees for the remainder of his senior year.
