We first met pianist Harmony Zhu when she was just 9 years old. Six years later, Harmony has gone on to a career filled with solo performances and more.
For today’s Daily Joy, she is sharing an intensely moving performance of Chopin’s Ballade No. 4 in F Minor.
Demarest, NJ Harmony appeared in From the Top’s cover of “Stressed Out” (March 2017), performed in collaboration with PROJECT Trio.

Harmony Zhu (piano), 9, is a third grader at the Spring School in New Jersey and is also a student of Veda Kaplinsky at the Juilliard Pre-College Division. In addition to her piano skills, for which she has performed and won prizes, scholarships, and competitions around the world from an early age, she is equally talented at chess. For both, she has been featured on CBC TV, NBC’s Ellen DeGeneres, and more. In her free time, Harmony enjoys playing chess, composing her own music on the piano, spelling, math, daydreaming, and being in nature.
Music has the unique ability to bring joy to our lives – especially in the hands of young people. Daily Joy is a reminder of music’s power to uplift, inspire, and unite.
Daily Joy is a project of From the Top. It began in the very early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and continues today to offer a much-needed respite from the anxiety and worry that we encounter in the world.
