Program bio from Show 206:
The Percussion Scholarship Group, launched in 1995 under the direction of Chicago Symphony Orchestra percussionist Patricia Dash and Douglas Waddell, percussionist with Lyric Opera of Chicago, offers intensive, individual, weekly percussion instruction on a full scholarship basis. Participating students, all Chicago residents in grades three through twelve, are selected for the group through a rigorous application and personal interview process. The performing members include Andre Battles, Amanda Chow, Eric Goldberg, Shuya Gong, Lucia Leon, John Ringer, Marcellina Suchocka, Zuri Akaela Wells, and Joshua Jones, a Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist who has appeared on the PBS series From the Top at Carnegie Hall.
Music has the unique ability to bring joy to our lives – especially in the hands of young people. Daily Joy is a reminder of music’s power to uplift, inspire, and unite.
Daily Joy is a project of From the Top. It began in the very early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and continues today to offer a much-needed respite from the anxiety and worry that we encounter in the world.
