16-year-old saxophonist GianCarlo Lay shares a piece that matches his “fast-paced” personality, Paganini’s Carnival of Venice (arr. Marcel Mule).
GianCarlo performed on From the Top with the Quantum Quartet on Show 386 in Los Angeles, California in March 2020.
GianCarlo Lay (saxophone), 15, is a sophomore at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas studying with Mark Smith.As a member of the Hebron High School band, he plays alto saxophone in the Varsity Wind Ensemble. During the fall of 2019, he performed as a featured quartet member in the Hebron 2017 Marching Band show “Among the Stars,” which won the Outstanding Music Performance at the Bands of America Grand Nationals Competition. Outside of the band, GianCarlo is also a member of the award-winning Quantum Quartet, as well as the Hebron High School Saxophone Sextet. Outside of saxophone, GianCarlo enjoys writing music, and is an avid dancer, whose work has appeared on national television and on stages around the country. As a performer and artist, he hopes to impact communities by inspiring others to pursue their artistic passions.
Receiving the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award will allow GianCarlo to purchase two new saxophones and a mouthpiece.
