William Ge (piano), 16, originally hails from Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, and currently attends Phillips Academy Andover and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. He has been playing piano for 12 years and studies with Jonathan Bass. Previously, he studied with Ya-Fei Chuang, John Perry, Natalie Zhu and the late Joy Kiszely.
After winning the Albert M. Greenfield Concerto Competition at age eleven, William debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra in October 2022, an appearance that led the Philadelphia Inquirer to rave: “…notably fluid while gilding the music with spots of interpretive individualization…the future was easy to imagine in the hands of William Ge.”
William’s recent achievements include winning the top prize at the 2023 Jacob Flier International Piano Competition, Grand Prize at the 2023 Boston Pop’s Fidelity Investments Young Artists Competition, the Gold Prize at the 2023 Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, First Place at the 2023 NEC Prep Concerto Competition, and Second Place and the Chopin Award at the 2023 MTNA National Senior Piano Performance Competition. He is also a 3rd-year recipient of the Chopin Foundation’s Chopin Scholarship and a 2023 National YoungArts Competition winner in Classical Music.
William’s recent performance highlights include a concerto debut with the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, playing Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on the Theme of Paganini, and his recital debut at the 2023 Kingston Chamber Music Festival as their first young musician invited. William has been invited by the Chopin Foundation of the United States to perform two solo recitals in their “Chopin for All” concert series in December, 2023.
Since 2018, William has given numerous solo recitals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Massachusetts. He has also performed with numerous chamber groups in Pennsylvania, Maine and Massachusetts. William was awarded the Settlement Music School’s Advanced Study Ensemble Scholarship in 2021. His concerto appearances also include the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra and the Warminster Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania.
William has attended and received scholarships from many renowned international music festivals, including the Cliburn International Junior Festival, PianoSummer at New Paltz, the Frost Chopin Academy, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the John Perry Academy of Music, the Morningside Music Bridge Festival, the Orford Music Festival, and the International Summer Academy at Mozarteum.
He has performed in many venues, including Boston’s Symphony Hall, Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall and Perelman Theater, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, NEC’s Jordan Hall, UM’s Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, SMU’s Caruth Auditorium, the Kleines Studio at Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Schloss Höch in Austria, and the Marconi Concert Hall in Poland.
A 2025 Caroline D. Bradley Scholar, William loves physics and writing, and is heavily involved in school activities: he’s acted as an Eco-Leader in Andover’s Sustainability Coalition, runs distance on the track team, and is a prefect in his dorm of ninth and tenth graders. William is an associate editor of The Phillipian, Andover’s weekly publication.
