Holly Lacey (violin), 18, is from South Pasadena, California, and attends the Colburn School Music Academy in Los Angeles, where she is a Kohl Scholar, studying with violinist Margaret Batjer. In 2024, she debuted at The Walt Disney Concert Hall as The Music Center’s 2024 Spotlight Competition Grand Prize scholarship recipient and winner in classical music. As a winner of the 2024 and 2023 Colburn Concerto Competition, Holly performed as soloist with the Colburn Youth Orchestra and the Colburn Chamber Orchestra. In 2024, she also performed as soloist with Orchestra Manhattan in Carnegie Hall and with the SEEN Orchestra as a semifinalist in the 2024 International Young Artists Concerto Competition. She was also a featured performer in the Colburn Music Academy’s 2024 Showcase performance broadcast live on the Violin Channel. Other accolades include 1st place nationally in the 2024 OPUS Music Competition and, in prior years, 1st prizes in the Southern California Philharmonic Young Artists Competition, Southern California Junior Bach Festival, and CAPMT contemporary music competition.
As an avid chamber musician, Holly was the violinist in the Nth Trio. Together, they were awarded the inaugural Horszowski Trio Prize at the 50th Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2023 and first prizes at the 2023 California-wide MTAC VOCE chamber music competition, Camerata Artists International Competition, ENKOR International Music Competition, Bellagrande International Music Competition, among others. As a dedicated orchestral musician, Holly served for 5 seasons as concertmaster of the Colburn Sinfonietta, Colburn Youth Orchestra, and Colburn String Orchestra.
Holly is an ardent advocate for giving back to her community. She is the co-Regional Director and co-founder of the Back to BACH Greater Pasadena region. Holly is also an inaugural fellow with National Public Radio’s From the Top Musicians and the Environment Initiative where she collaborated with climate scientists and arts producers and mentors to intersect music and science as a forum for conveying scientific messages to the general public.
For the past four summers, Holly has studied with Gerardo Ribeiro at the Meadowmount School of Music. Holly has also had the honor of participating in masterclasses with Midori Goto, Alexander Kerr, Martin Beaver, Ivan Zenaty, Catherine Cho, Kikuie Ikeda, Almita Vamos, Kelly Parkins-Lindstrom, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Rieko Aizawa.
Holly is a senior at South Pasadena High School. In the Fall, Holly will attend Yale University’s five-year BA/M program, where she will study with Ani Kavafian.
