Jiyu Oh (violin), 17, is a violinist from Seoul, South Korea. She is currently a Junior at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, studying with Prof. Soovin Kim at the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School (NEC Prep). Also at NEC, Jiyu is enrolled in the Chamber Music Intensive Performance Seminar (CHIPS) and the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO). Having won first prize at numerous national competitions, her most recent highlights include a debut recital at the Kumho Art Hall as a Kumho Prodigy Artist, a full scholarship to participate in the Chamber Music Northwest Young Artist Institute and Morningside Music Bridge Performance Program, and 2nd place in the NEC Preparatory School Concerto Competition. Before moving to the USA, Jiyu was a student at Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School. She received the overall grand prize at the 2022 Young Musicians Concours and the 2020 CBS National Youth Competition, and first prize at the 2020 Dong-A Junior Competition and the 2020 Sungjung Competition. Recent performances include participating in “A Night at the Museum” held at Calderwood Hall in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, a Samick Young Artists Concert, and the Switzerland-South Korea Cultural Exchange Concert. She has also performed at the Seoul Arts Center (SAC) as a member of the SAC Youth Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Jiyu has performed with ensembles in a Seoul Virtuosi Chamber Concert, a Music for Food Concert at the Goethe Institute, a “Back to Bach” virtual concert, and the Learning Courage virtual concert “Hope”, which included the performance of a commissioned piece.

Jiyu graduated from Yewon School in 2022, receiving the Im Wonsik Artist Award. During her studies at Yewon School, Jiyu received the prestigious Lee Daewoong Artist Scholarship and the Samick Arts Scholarship. In recent years, Jiyu has had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with renowned musicians, including Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, Mai Motobuchi, Ulf Wallin, Guillaume Sutre, Wayne Lin, Mi-kyung Lee and Wonhee Bae.

Receiving the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award will allow Jiyu to continue her studies at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts into her Senior year.

A consummate musician recognized for her grace, subtlety, and brilliance, the pianist Orli Shaham is hailed by critics on four continents. The New York Times called her a “brilliant pianist,” The Chicago Tribune referred to her as “a first-rate Mozartean,” and London’s Guardian said Ms. Shaham’s playing at the Proms was “perfection.”

Orli Shaham has performed with many of the major orchestras around the world, and has appeared in recital internationally, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. She is Artistic Director of Pacific Symphony’s chamber series Café Ludwig in California since 2007 and was Artist in Residence at Vancouver Symphony (USA) in 2022-2024.

Highlights of Ms. Shaham’s 2024-2025 concert season include performances of concertos written for her by David Robertson with Utah Symphony and by Steven Mackey at Tanglewood, and the Beethoven Triple Concerto with her brother, violinist Gil Shaham. Chamber recitals across the country include Dumbarton Oaks, Music at Menlo, La Jolla, and more.

In 2024, Orli Shaham released the final volumes of the complete piano sonatas by Mozart to high critical acclaim. Her discography includes over a dozen titles on Deutsche Gramophone, Sony, Canary Classics and other labels. Orli Shaham is on the piano and chamber music faculty at The Juilliard School and is a Co-Host and Creative for the national radio program From the Top. She is also Artistic Director of the interactive children’s concert series, Orli Shaham’s Bach Yard, which she founded in 2010, and is chair of the Board of Trustees of Kaufman Music Center.
