If Laura Wang’s performance of Amy Beach’s Romance for Violin and Piano doesn’t make you swoon, check your pulse. Laura is 18 and hails from Lexington, Massachusetts, and when she isn’t giving breathtaking performances like this one, she can be found writing or editing poetry for multiple organizations.

Laura Wang (violin), 18, is currently a senior at Lexington High School in Massachusetts. She has been playing the violin since the age of seven, and currently studies with Peter Zazofsky.
Laura has been a member of the Boston Youth Symphony since 2019, and since then has enjoyed her time performing in many opera and symphonic productions with her peers. An avid lover of chamber music, Laura is currently a member of the intensive, tuition- free ChamberMusicLab (CML) at The Rivers School Conservatory, and previously took part in the Chamber Music Intensive Performance Seminar within the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School. In addition, Laura has had the privilege to participate in masterclasses with Aaron Rosand, Donald Weilerstein, and Benjamin Zander. One of her most recent accolades includes winning first prize at the 2023 American Protege International Competition of Romantic Music.
Beyond her musical pursuits, Laura is a writer of poetry, prose, and fiction whose work has been recognized by the Scholastic Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. She edits poetry for/has been published by multiple magazines and is currently working on a chapbook manuscript exploring the intersections of girlhood and Asian identity.
In her free time, Laura enjoys baking bread, figuring out how to do astrophotography, and re-reading her favorite books for the 10th time.
Receiving the Award will support Laura’s music education by covering her Boston Youth Symphony tuition, covering travel and lodging costs for her college auditions, and covering tuition and travel for Laura to attend an intensive summer music program.
