Last year, we met teenage saxophonist Jayme Billings when she appeared on an episode of From the Top!
For today’s Daily Joy, we’re revisiting a truly beautiful moment from her time recording with us. Here is her deeply expressive performance of a French work for saxophone.
Underhill, Vermont Jayme performed on Show 393 from Boston, Massachusetts.
Jayme Billings (saxophone), 16, is from Underhill, Vermont and in the eleventh grade at Mount Mansfield Union High School. She studies with Kenneth Radnofsky through New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School and Steven Klimowski, Affiliate Artist at the University of Vermont. She is a member of several ensembles including the NEC Prep Saxophone Ensemble. Two of Jayme’s proudest accomplishments have been attending National Honors Ensemble in Orlando, Florida and winning All-State Scholarships for Wind Instruments as a sophomore. Outside of music, Jayme is interested in math, psychology, neurology, and sustainability.
Music has the unique ability to bring joy to our lives – especially in the hands of young people. Daily Joy is a reminder of music’s power to uplift, inspire, and unite.
Daily Joy is a project of From the Top. It began in the very early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and continues today to offer a much-needed respite from the anxiety and worry that we encounter in the world.
